  • Classwork:     Vocabulary TEST,  Check character analysis- students must chose a character (Ancient One, Ranofer, Heqet) then use three quotes that describe this character.  Students began filling out template with quotes.  (Literary Analysis Paragraph Template-golden goblet character) They will responsible to complete paper on 12/1 and 12/2.  It will be due 12/3.
  • Homework: 1.Character Analysis Paper…use template  2.  Read  Golden Goblet  chapter 11-16 and complete dialectical journal(dialecticaljournalgoldengobletch11-15)- due Friday 12/5

6th grade: November 19, 2014

  • Homework:  Worksheet 3.10 complete all of the assignment #1-3, in skills practice do #1-6 (all), 8, 9, 14-18 even (3 10 mth assignment)

  • Classwork:     Reading check quiz; Review vocabulary such that all students have the correct information to study (root answers;  Work on character analysis- students must chose a character (Ancient One, Ranofer, Heqet) then use three quotes that describe this character.  Students began filling out template with quotes.  (Literary Analysis Paragraph Template-golden goblet character) They will responsible to complete paper on 12/1 and 12/2.  It will be due 12/3.
  • Homework: 1.Vocabulary packet (review #1) due 11/19 (vocab review 1) This is review this week of important concepts that have been covered so far in our year.  Test on this material will be on Friday 11/21.  Students will have a multiple choice portion where they need to know the meaning of the root words.  They will then need to use 8 words from their list that they created to write a story that makes sense.  Students will also be tested on identifying simple, compound, complex, compound complex sentences.  2.  Using  Golden Goblet dialectical journal(golden goblet 7 8 9)… 3 quotes about 1 character from novel (either Ancient One, Heqet, or Ranofer), complete character analysis paper template  3.  Read chapter 10 of Golden Goblet

Social Studies

  • Classwork:  completed  rosetta stone; began Egypt study guide (egyptstudy guide)
  • Homework:   none- study guide for Egypt was passed out.  We will complete this together in class Friday.  What isn’t done, will be due on 12/3.

One day left of class before we are on break next week for our Fall/Thanksgiving break.

****Important!  I am not able to tutor students on Friday morning at 10, as previously stated….my son has a doctor’s appointment that I have to get him to.  Instead, we can meet for essay writing help on Monday, December 1st at 11:00 am.*****

Language Arts

  • Classwork:     Journal writing free write; Discuss Tone and Mood of novels,  begin reading chapter 7 and practice reading “closely” with the novel- identify examples of the author’s tone and how it changes during the story. ; review compound sentences, complex sentences, and compound complex sentences.  Remember that dependent clauses in complex sentences and compound complex sentences have a verb.  Example of dependent clause:  After dinner was over, Nonexample of dependent clause:  After dinner,                                                                            Compound sentence: has a FANBOYS and joins 2 independent clauses (example:  I went to school, and I studied Spanish.)   Complex sentence: has dependent clause and independent clause (example:  After dinner was over, we went outside to play baseball.)  Compound/Complex sentence:  has a dependent clause, independent clause, FANBOYS, independent clause (example:  After dinner was over, I went to school and studied Spanish.)

(golden goblet 7 8 9) 4.  Compound/Complex worksheet #3 and 4  On the #3 side students need to add a dependent clause to one of the blanks for each sentence.(compound complex 3 and 4)

  • Classwork: Fill out template for summary of “A Feverish World”feverish world template ; begin lab
  • Homework: 1.  Summary of scientific article(a feverish world)- use template as a guide.  Students were asked to add evidence from the article as a quote 2.  Read p.484-486 from text in preparation for Lab friday.

Language Arts

  • Classwork:     Journal writing with citing evidence for one’s opinion, vocabulary test; begin reading chapter 6 and practice reading “closely” with the novel- identify “Level 1” questions- these are questions that can be answered directly from the text, introduced the idea of a “Level 2” question- this is a question that requires the reader to use inference; chose a Heqet joke to begin writing template for next paragraph
  • Homework: 1.Vocabulary packet (review #1) due 11/19 (vocab review 1) This is review this week of important concepts that have been covered so far in our year.  I asked students to test themselves to see what they know before they use past worksheets to find the answers  2.  Finish template in preparation for paragraph about Heqet and his “jokes”heqet paragraph template 3.  Read Chapter 6  of Golden Goblet, use post it notes to write 2 “Level 1” questions and answer the questions that you find.  Use the examples that we did together at the beginning of chapter 6 as a reference.

Social Studies

  • Classwork:  Powerpoint/notes on Egyptian achievements
  • Homework:   none- will prepare hieroglyphs in class on Friday- can read handout in preparation if wanted (rosetta stone project)
